Abstract

LLIBRE RODRIGUEZ, Juan de J; GARCIA CAPOTE, Julia  and  GUERRA HERNANDEZ, Milagros A. Consideraciones éticas y sociales en la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1999, vol.18, n.1, pp. 54-61. ISSN 1561-3011.

The investigation of patients with Alzheimer's disease gives rise to difficult ethical and legal questions due, among other factors, to the cognitive deterioration of these patients. The main sources of ethical conflict in this disease may be found in the investigation, clinical assays, diagnosis, the physician-patient relationship and legal advisory. The knowledge of doctors and investigators about the ethical principles of autonomy, non-wrongdoing, beneficence, veracity, justice and reliability are useful tools in daily practice. Reference is made in this paper to these ethical principles and their interaction in Alzheimer's disease.

Keywords : ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE; ETHICS, MEDICAL; RESEARCH; PHYSICIAN-PATIENT RELATIONS; DIAGNOSIS; LIABILITY, LEGAL.
