Abstract

VALIENTE BISSET, Daisy et al. Crecimiento y composición corporal de las crías de ratas sometidas a restricción alimentaria. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1999, vol.18, n.2, pp. 104-110. ISSN 1561-3011.

In the present paper, we intend to study the impact of dietary restriction of pregnant rats on the growth, body fat and water content of their offspring during their first 21 days of life. The experiment was performed with 40 Sprague Dawly female pregnant rats which were included in a control group and in a dietary restricted group; we estimated the fat and water contents of the offspring since they were born until they were weaned by means of sample dissecation and extraction of organic fat solvents. Body weight and lenght of pups of mothers on dietary restriction were lower than those of the control group at weaning. Fat content was lower when the offspring of the restricted food group was born but this is balanced at the end of the first week. Water content did not differ in both studied groups. Body fat volume of the progeny of mothers on food restriction is more weight than age-dependent.
