Abstract

PIMENTEL BENITEZ, Héctor I; FAJARDO CASTELLANOS, Jaime  and  GARCIA CAPOTE, Julia. Duplo y: ¿estigmatización genética?. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1999, vol.18, n.2, pp. 111-116. ISSN 1561-3011.

Genetic stigmatization is an event that takes on significance with the advances in molecular biology and the discovery of every new gene contributed by the Human Genome research project; however, there are still syndromes like the XYY one which has been associated to violent behaviours since it was described for the first time. In this paper, we made an assessment of the basic ideas on this syndrome and its relationship with delinquency based on the reports found in MEDLINE database from 1990 to may, 1998. The unsatisfactory collection of the described subjects' personnal data, so important for the analysis of the role of the social environment on the occurence of this fenotype, was stressed. We also made our own assessment of the location of this problem line between the biological field and the social field. As well as some suggestions and/or considerations, taking unlimited scope of XYY syndrome mainly from the ethical viewpoint into account.

Keywords : XYY KARYO TYPE; VIOLENCE; STEREOTIPING.
