A biomaterial obtained from the porous endoskeleton of a sea echinoderm that under hydrothermal conditions with ion exchange is transformed into a biphasic compound, which is basically compesed of hydroxyapatite and a part of calcium carbonate, was studied. The material has properties that allow its use in form of granules in bone substitutes or restorations of lesions caused by orthopedic cysts or tumors, or in concave preforms in skull or in the floor and roof of the ocular fornix.
