Abstract

SANCHEZ SOCARRAS, Violeida. Papel de la Angiogénesis en el crecimiento tumoral. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2001, vol.20, n.3, pp. 223-230. ISSN 1561-3011.

The term angiogenesis literally means the formation of new blood vessels; this process includes vasculogenesis that occurs to set he vascular pattern of the adult and the formation of new capillaries from the already existing ones. After the completion of the vascular development, angiogenesis turns into a pathological process that accompanies and favors neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. The present paper is aimed at explaining the regulating factors of angiogenesis and the role of this process in the tumor growth. It covers a review of 31 articles on this subject. The tumor progression includes changes in the local balance between the positive and negative regulators of the vascular growth, therefore, angiogenesis is considered one of the directing processes of the tumorous development

Keywords : NEOPLASMS [diagnosis]; NEOPLASM [therapy]; ANGIOGENESIS, FACTOR [therapeutic use]; FIBROBLAST GROWTH FACTOR; NEOVASCULARIZATION, PATHOLOGIC.
