Abstract
QUINTERO PEREZ, William et al. Relación entre las distintas subpoblaciones celulares, la enzima superóxido dismutasa y la calidad seminal. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2002, vol.21, n.2, pp. 81-85. ISSN 1561-3011.
A study of 554 infertile men was conducted in which the presence of leucocytospermia was determined and a seminal analysis was made. The effect of the different cellular subpopulations on the quality of semen and on the production of superoxide dismutase was also determined. It was found an increase of the frequency of leucocytospermia (16.4 %) compared with previous studies. The positive peroxidase leukocytes were negatively correlated with mobility (r = -0.35 p < 0.05). It was also found a negative correlation between the NK cells and mobility (r= -0.35 p < 0.045). However, the macrophages showed a positive correlation with the test of hyposmotic swelling (r = 0.68 p < 0.01) and with the spermatic morphology (r= 0.65 p< 0.01). The superoxide dismutase enzyme had a negative correlation with the number of positive peroxidase leucocytes (r = 0.33 p < 0.004) and it did not correlate with any other cellular type. The results prove that the presence of diverse leucocytes in semen may affect the seminal parameters in a different way, as well as the production of superoxide dismutase.
