Abstract

ACOSTA SANCHEZ, Tatiana; NUNEZ, DanielPedro  and  SUAREZ LUENGO, Mayelin. Anemia hemolítica por deficiencia de G6PD y estrés oxidativo. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.3, pp. 186-191. ISSN 1561-3011.

The objective of this paper was to consider the relationship existing between the role played by G6PD and the oxidative stress, and to explain the possible mechanisms producing hemolysis. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase is one of the critical enzymes for the functioning and survival of the red blood cells. On analyzing the function of this enzyme in the erythrocyte, it is understood its close linking with the processes related to oxidative stress among the individuals carriers of enzimatic forms with diminished activity. The patients carriers of enzymatic deficiency are susceptible to the action of the oxidizing agents and it makes that most of the cases present an hemolytic activity of varying intensity produced by the ingestion of certain drugs, habas limas or during the course of severe infectious processes. Another way of presentation is neonatal icterus.

Keywords : ANEMIA, HEMOLYTIC; OXIDATIVE STRESS; GLUCOSE PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE.
