Abstract

PEREZ GIL, Rita María; RODRIGUEZ AURRECOCHEA, Juan C; MONTALVO DUQUEZNE, Martha  and  BELLO GARCIGA, José Luis. Toxicity due to administration of lyophylized kit of coloidal bismuth subcitrate. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2004, vol.23, n.2, pp. 75-79. ISSN 1561-3011.

The study of toxicity of a lyophilized kit containing coloidal bismuth subcitrate as active component for use in 99 mTc labelling and in detection of intestinal inflammatory diseases by radiodiagnosis. Toxicity was evaluated by orally administering the product to Sprague Dawley rats of both sexes at four dose levels of 10,50,100 and 500 mg/kg. Two samplings were made at days 14 and 21 after the administration of the product together with the anatomopathological study of lungs, liver, heart, kidneys, spleen and intestines. The lyophilized kit of coloidal bismuth subcitrate only showed a sort of toxic effect in female rats at the maximum dose of 500 mg/kg that disappears as time goes by. It was concluded that Sprague Dawley rats of both sexes tolerate the product at tested doses
