Abstract

GUERRA, Liliana et al. Levels of plasmic and urinary TBARS in hyperthyroid patients before and after treatment with antioxidants. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2004, vol.23, n.2, pp. 87-91. ISSN 1561-3011.

A study was made to determine the mechanisms involved in the beneficial effect of an antioxidant mixture on the treatment of hyperthyroidism. Plasmic and urinary TBARS, levels of long-life circulating hormones and reactive species in urine were determined by applying a novel detecting method. Oxidative stress may be related to symptoms rather than to level of circulating hormones in hyperthyroid patients

Keywords : Hyperthyroidism; plasmic and urinary TBARS; circulating hormones; oxidative stress.
