Abstract

MARTINEZ CHANG, Ysis Margarita  and  SARDUY NAPOLES, Miguel. Management of the adolescents with intraepithelial cervical neoplasia. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

A descriptive study was conducted in adolescent patients that received attention at the cervical pathology consultation of “Ramón Gonzalez Coro” Hospital from January 2003 to May 2005. The number of patients ascended to 144 and of them 32 presented neoplasias. The age group 17-18 was the most common with a frequency referred bewteen 2 and 3 sexual partners. HPV was the most common sexually transmitted infection. NCI I and NIC II were the most frequent results of the cytology tests, corresponding to a higher number of positive colposcopy cases. In the punch biopsies, NIC II was the common. In most of the cases with high degree lesions the treatment was conization with diathermic snare. Taking into account the findings of the study, and without modifying the norms of the National Program for the Early Detection of Uterine Cerviz Cancer, it is important to conduct cytologic and colposcopic studies in patients under 25 as long as there are risk factors.

Keywords : Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia; HPV infection; adolescents.
