Abstract

AMARO CANO, María del Carmen. Ethical reflections on scientific biomedical research from the point of view of the Medical University. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

A theoretical reflection was made on the historical evolution of the development of science and scientific research and on the statement of the main current problems related to that work in the field of biomedical sciences at the world level from the point of view of the Medical University and to the light of the moral values. The ethical aspects connected with the application of the scientific method, and specially with the priciples that should rule the scientific research methodology in general and, in particular, in the field of biomedicine, were dealt with. The attention was called on the chief problems of the scientific research and publications and on the numerous ways of ethical violations committed by a group of professionals from the science field, and, specifically, from the medical sciences sphere along history. To conclude, emphasis was made on three fundamental principles that should not be ignored in any scientific research: the ethical assessment of the objective of the research, of the means used to attain the proposed goal, and of the immediate and on the long-term consequences of this research.

Keywords : Research on human subjects; ethics; bioethics.
