Abstract

BARRERA SOTOLONGO, Julián  and  OSORIO LEON, Sarah. Risk factors in arterial hypertension of climacteric women. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 3 family physicians’ offices of “Adrián Sansariqc” Teaching Polyclinic, in the municipality of Artemisa, with hypertensive women aged 40-59, who were analyzed from February 1st to December 31st, 2005. The categorization register was used in every physician office and all the essential hypertensive women entered the study. Those women with secondary hypertension were not included as an exclusion criterion. A questionnaire was applied and the following data were collected:characteristics of the climacteric syndrome, systematic practice or not of physical exercises, nutritional assessment, smoking habit and type of menopause. The chi square and Z tests were used to compare the proportions. It was concluded that the climacteric syndrome had similar characteristics in hypertensive and normotensive women, and that most of the hypertensive were obese or overweight, as well as smokers, and that systematic physical exercises were not done.
