Abstract

MARTINEZ MANRIQUE, Clara Esther. Modulation of the immune response: current trends. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2006, vol.25, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

A review of immunomodulators, their mode of action and classification was made, assuming these criteria in the immunological adjuvants. The conjugation of known modulators, the obtention and application of other of natural origin or from the immune system, such as cytokines, and the application of the magnetically treated CM-95 substance as a novelty were assessed among the present trends in immunomodulation. The technologies used for the obtention of these substances, such as recombinant DNA, transfection of genes, conjugation techniques, and magnetic treatment, among others, were made known. These new approaches have allowed to reduce the toxicity of these substances and increase their immunological efficiency, allowing to establish a balance between efficacy and innocuousness, according to the norms established for  their application in the therapy of diseases or prophylaxis, and in the obtention of human and veterinary vaccines of new generation and immune sera.

Keywords : Immunomodulators; immunological adjuvants; classification; safety; immune system substances; natural substances; magnetically treated CM-95.
