Abstract

MARQUETTI HERNANDEZ, Anay  and  CORDERO SANCHEZ, Tamara. VIMANG®: in vitro and in vivo antioxidant effects. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2007, vol.26, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

A review of the in vitro and in vivo studies was conducted to elucidate the antioxidant mechanisms of VIMANG®; the registered mark of new 100 % natural antioxidant products that prevent or repair the damage associated with the oxidative stress. In spite of having an effectivity higher than the other recognized antioxidants, its administration is considered supplementary or of secondary importance in medical practice. Some of the aspects that may influence on this fact are the current regulatory environment, where the antioxidants are not considered drugs, and the little knowledge of the medical personnel about the mechanisms explaining such effects. Collecting and showing the scientific evidences supporting the therapeutical usefulness of the VIMANG® products, would contribute to potentiate their use and to reduce the incidence of the adverse reactions produced by many synthetic antioxidants prescribed at present.

Keywords : VIMANG®; VIMANG® antioxidant action mechanism; mangiferine; free radicals; oxidative stress.
