Abstract

Introduction Measuring the health-related quality of life and obtaining the amount of pesos and tariffs for each state that is generated is essential in the economic cost-benefit evaluations. Objectives To submit an instrument to make these evaluations in Cuban healthcare institutions. Methods A literature review on the health-related quality of life concept and on the main instruments providing information on this topic was made. Results The instruments to measure quality of life are classified in generic and specific. The former have advantages that are useful in economic assessments and mainly those using benefit or preference measures are the most suitable for this kind of analysis. Conclusions The WHO instrument in its short format called "WHOQOL-BREF is suitable to obtain the amount of pesos and tariffs involved in the health-related quality of life measurement in Cuban healthcare institutions.
