Abstract

QUINTANA SETIEN, Carlos  and  FERNANDEZ-BRITTO RODRIGUEZ, José Emilio. Antihypertensive drug therapy compliance by adults in the primary health care and factors related to non-compliance. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2009, vol.28, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3011.

The control of blood pressure and the drug therapy compliance are related. The objective of this research study is to find out the prevalence of this compliance, the factors that propitiate it and to assess the usefulness of this procedure to measure such compliance. This procedure resulted from the combination of indirect methods of measuring drug therapy compliance. A population-based study was performed in six doctor´s offices from "Vedado", "Dr. Diego Tamayo" and "Heroes de Girón" teaching polyclinics located in Plaza de la Revolución, Habana Vieja and Cerro municipalities, respectively. Three hundred and twenty nine patients were interviewed and examined through a data model that allows relating lifestyles and compliance with the therapy. Adherence was determined in 37.4 % of cases and favorably correlated with age, sex, educational level, exercising, living with another person, balanced diet and regular visits to the doctor's. The study suggested that the procedure can be used and that the variables for definition of therapy compliance profile should be taken into account.
