Abstract

An analysis of the results obtained in the competence exams made in the whole country by the National Center of Medical Improvement, from 1997 to 1999, was made. The research was carried out in 2000 and all the nurses, technicians and bachelors who had taken this test in 1997, 1998 and 1999, were included. The figure amounted to 1 444. A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted and the variables object of study were the satisfactory and unsatisfactory results. Of the 3 years under study, 1997 proved to be the best with 90 % of satisfactory results. The best results concerning the fulfillment of the plan were obtained in this year, too, with 95.6 %. The provinces of Villa Clara, in 1997, La Habana, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, Santiago de Cuba and the special municipality of the Isle of Youth, had 100 % of satisfactory results. The most difficult subjects were Sterilization and Disinfection, Geriatric Care, Immunization, Accidents and Nursing Care Process.
