Abstract

Abraham Flexner was a remarkable educator who devoted most of his teaching work to the improvement of the American medical education and his works have practically influenced the medical education worldwide. The present article provides some biographical data on this figure and makes an analysis of the significance of his work and the validity of some of his recommendations; it also analyzes the main critiques and limitations about his work. The importance of Flexner´s works for those people interested in such a dynamic field like the formation of physicians and other human resources in health sciences is also underlined.
