Abstract

VICEDO TOMEY, Agustín. Five doctrinal proposals on the competency-based formation. Educ Med Super [online]. 2011, vol.25, n.3, pp. 361-371. ISSN 0864-2141.

Starting from a theoretical background, essentially founded on the behavior determining function of the central nervous system, we propose and substantiate five doctrinal proposals which are linked to the nature and applicability of professional competencies in the educational environment; these are: 1. Competence is a physiological state. 2. Competence components are mental and motosensorials. 3. Professional competence is established by responsibility limits. 4. Competences are acquired through their components. 5. Nature of competence components guides planning of teaching process. We discuss how neurophysiological fundamentals of the learning process can provide a fruitful approach in connection with competence based formation and become a guide in planning and performing of concrete teaching activities.

Keywords : Professional competencies; curricular design; learning.
