Abstract

The use of databases is particularly important in the medical performance because of the facilities provided to treat medical information. The present paper allowed identifying the learning needs of primary health care physicians about working with databases. To this end, 105 physicians, who worked in the education, assistance and research areas at the university polyclinics in Playa municipality in the 2009-2010 academic year, were surveyed; additionally, 9 medical informatics professors from various medical faculties in the City of Havana were interviewed. The learning requirements on the study of databases were noticed. The physicians admitted the importance of database management for their performance. It was concluded that learning requirements were detected in relation with the design and the use of databases for health information treatment.
