Abstract

GONZALEZ-CARDONA, Yamily; BARZALLO-ANGULO, Alisson Juliana  and  GONZALEZ-AGUILAR, Vivian. Level of knowledge on prevention of alveolitis in dentists of Health Centers in the city of Ambato. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2023, vol.27, suppl.2  Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

alveolitis is a frequent post-exodontic complication in the dental field and therefore its prevention is important.

Objective:

to evaluate the level of knowledge of dentists working in health centers in the city of Ambato on the prevention of alveolitis.

Methods:

observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study carried out in health centers belonging to the city of Ambato during 2022. A sample of 24 dentists was selected in an equiprobabilistic way, fulfilling the selection criteria, and then a questionnaire was applied to them, which allowed the collection of information that led to the variables studied, respecting medical ethics.

Results:

91,7 % of the participants pointed out bacterial contamination as the main cause of alveolitis, 91,7 % confirmed that an incorrect maneuver could cause it, and 37,5 % pointed out pain as a constant symptom. Among the preventive measures, 29,2 % indicated that alcoholic beverages should not be drunk and 66,7 % considered it necessary to brush after 24 hours, reporting that 91,7 % of the participants had a high level of knowledge regarding the prevention of alveolitis after an exodontia.

Conclusions:

it was evidenced that the participants of the study had a good level of knowledge, however, they have deficiencies regarding the symptoms of alveolitis. Most of them also pointed out that the prevention of alveolitis depends on a correct extraction maneuver, requiring an adequate postoperative instruction to the patient.
