Abstract
VASQUEZ-BARBERAN, Samantha de los Ángeles; FREIRE-VILLENA, Diana Carolina and MAYORGA-PICO, Juan Francisco. Analysis of impression-taking techniques in removable partial dentures. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2023, vol.27, suppl.2 Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 1561-3194.
Introduction:
the success of a removable partial denture depends on several factors, among which the impression taking is one of the most important for the elaboration of the prosthesis.
Objective:
to describe the different techniques for taking impressions in removable partial dentures.
Methods:
a bibliographic review was carried out by means of an information search in the databases PubMed/MedLine, Scopus, SciELO and Redalyc. The terms used for the search strategy were "Dental impression", "Impression techniques", "Removable Partial Prosthesis", "Functional impression" related by means of AND and OR operators.
Development:
the materials for the realization of partial prostheses must meet a group of physical-chemical properties that guarantee zero toxicity to the patient and high comfort, functionality and durability. Among the main materials are Alginate, polyethers, polyvinylsiloxanes, alginate substitutes and fast setting elastomeric materials. The main techniques are the full single tray technique, modified model impression, overprinting or pick-up and CAD/CAM system impression.
Conclusions:
the rehabilitation of partial edentulism by means of a removable partial prosthesis is one of the most required procedures in dentistry in general; that is why it is necessary to master the materials and techniques available to make decisions when fabricating it.
