Abstract
FIALLOS-JORDAN, Diana Lorena; MARGE-BARRERA, Anahi Alejandra and INCA-BASTIDAS, Marbin Ivo. Effects of copper zinc superoxide dismutase enzyme in Down syndrome. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2023, vol.27, suppl.2 Epub Dec 01, 2023. ISSN 1561-3194.
This research was conducted with the aim of understanding the biochemical dynamics of the Cu/Zn enzyme in patients with DS and to analyze how this enzyme acts in the metabolism of these patients, this through scientific texts covering the topics to be addressed, based on PubMed and Google solar academic search engine and indexed databases and works of the last six years of patients with this syndrome, it has been found that people with this disorder have lower levels of Cu/Zn-SOD compared to controls. This suggests that decreased activity of this enzyme may contribute to the neurodegenerative problems associated with DS. In addition, it has been observed that high zinc intakes induce the intestinal synthesis of a copper-binding protein called metallothionein. From the results obtained it can be concluded that the Cu/Zn enzyme does have effects in Down syndrome since the Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase enzyme is related to Chromosome 21 which gives the special characteristics of this syndrome to the patient. In addition, it was identified how the Cu/Zn enzyme acts in DS and directly with other types of pathologies, which should be monitored in this type of patients, since the symptoms are scarce and to have an effective diagnosis it is necessary to have several analyses.
