Introduction:
Vitamin D and vitamin K deficiency can have potentially serious health effects if not properly detected and treated.
Objective:
characterize aspects related to vitamin deficiency.
Methods:
a literature review was conducted in the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases, using a combination of search terms relevant to vitamin D and K deficiency. Studies published between 2010 and 2021 that provided information were included. on the prevalence, risk factors, prevention and treatment recommendations and health effects of vitamin D and K deficiency.
Results:
the need for effective measures to prevent and treat vitamin deficiencies was highlighted, including the promotion of healthy lifestyles, food fortification and the implementation of specific public health policies. The importance of research and continuous monitoring to adapt public health interventions and policies to the changing needs of populations was also discussed.
Conclusions:
prevention and adequate treatment of these deficiencies are essential to guarantee the health and well-being of affected populations. Therefore, education on the importance of maintaining adequate vitamin intake, the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the implementation of specific public health policies are promoted as effective measures to address these deficiencies in different contexts.
