LY, J. y GRAGEOLA, F.. Botany and propagation of Cuban royal palms. Cuban J. Agric. Sci. [online]. 2016, vol.50, n.4, pp. 525-542. ISSN 2079-3480.
The status quo is reviewed of the investigations related to the characteristics of the habitat, morphology, taxonomy and especially, the propagation of Cuban royal palms, an species that have gained relevance from the economic point of view, not only for being abundant feeding source and locally available for pig, but also by its distinction as integrant of the anthropic landscape. Regarding the propagation of Cuban royal palms, the collection and seed treatment, pre-germination and germination, nursery and tissue cultures, as well as the transplantation and growth of this endemic Cuban tree are coherently considered. For the first time factors influencing on this sui generis arboriculture are described. An advanced dasonomy design is proposed for the royal palm implicating tissue culture, genetic breeding and the integration of royal palms, perhaps cultivated in plantations, in productive chains including pig rearing
