RODRIGUEZ HEREDIA, Dunia et al. Evaluation of waste waters quality of the Soy Processing Industry of Santiago de Cuba. RTQ [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.3, pp. 598-610. Epub 30-Nov-2020. ISSN 2224-6185.
Santiago de Cuba´s bay is consolidated as the second most polluted marine ecosystem in the country, because it is the reservoir of much of the waste generated in the province. Among the industries that dump their residuals into the ecosystem, is the Soy Processing Company. Therefore, in the present work the quality of these residuals was evaluated based on the determination of chemical physical parameters. Samples were taken at the outlet of the plant to the receiving body, in the period from february to march 2019. The samples were analyzed in the "Elio Trincado" Laboratory of the Geominera Oriente Company and in the ENAST of Santiago de Cuba. Physical-chemical parameters were determined as: heavy metals, fats and oils, pH, conductivity, BOD and COD, comparing the values obtained with the NC 521: 2007 and NC 27:2012. The results revealed that heavy metals, conductivity and pH were within the norm, while the rest of the parameters fluctuated between values above the maximum permissible average limits established by cuban regulations. It is concluded that in these residuals organic compounds predominate, taking into account the high values of fats and oils, BOD and COD.
