Large amounts of waste are generated in livestock production and the transition towards a circular economy in its management poses multiple opportunities. The objective is to theoretically base the benefits of incorporating the circular economy in waste management to promote sustainability in livestock production. In the study, livestock was presented as a key element for the achievement of sustainable development, waste management as a priority sector for the transition to the circular economy and the relationship between the two. The benefits of the circular economy to sustainable development were described and the importance of adapting this transforming model to the Cuban economic reality is highlighted.
