Resumen

ACOSTA DAMAS, Maribel; COSTALES PEREZ, Zenaida; MEISOZO REYES, Norka  y  BORGES LOPEZ, Annierys. Sexuality and disability: confronting stereotypes from the perspective of documentary audiovisuals. Rev. cuba. inf. cienc. salud [online]. 2015, vol.26, n.3, pp. 273-279. ISSN 2307-2113.

Professional training of journalists involves the development of communication competencies required to confront stereotypes hampering total incorporation to society and the full exercise of human rights. Among them are those known as disability and sexuality. A growing number of audiovisual materials dealing with the topic are gradually being included in syllabuses and diploma research. This is no doubt a field of great importance for both journalists-to-be and society at large. The present paper reflects on the documentary "Ámame como soy" (Love me the way I am), a journalism graduation thesis dealing with forms of social conditioning that hinder the enjoyment of healthy, gratifying sexuality by persons with physical and mobility disabilities. Based on interviews with specialists and testimonials, the audiovisual product makes us familiar with the daily life and history of Carmen, a differently abled wife and mother, who tells about her conflicts and unveils her strength and potential to be happy.

Palabras clave : physical and mobility disability; sexuality; documentary; life story.
