Resumen

To determine the criteria of 9th grade students for choosing their sexual partners, a prospective and descriptive study was made with 9th grade students from "Francisco Maceo Osorio" junior high school during 1996-97 school year. A random sample was taken from 250 students and they were interviewed in a survey on the following variables: age, sex, reasons for shoosing a partner, frequency at which they change their partners, duration of relations in days, months or years, sexual intercourses and sources of information on sexual education. The most frequent age range was 12-14 years; girls were predominant, the main reasons for choosing a partner were encouragement by classmates and friends and physical attraction; thge frequency at which they change partners was high for most of them and a high percentage had sexual intercourse wereas the main source of information on sexual matters was the students' friends.
