The relation between model armour elements unit displacement and prototype damage are an important factor when modeling breakwater stability. Prototype breakwater monitoring has shown that concrete units can break due to rocking motions without being significantly displaced. The monitoring of damage, in both model and field applications, has been carried out by comparing images before and after the storm event. The damage is given as a percentage of the total number of armour units on the slope, per unit covered area,by means of the monitoring of the photographic survey. So it is very important that armour elements movement is obtained in an accurate and efficient way.
