HERRERA QUEVEDO, Katia Isabel; MONTES DE OCA, Erika Román y GARCIA FLORES, Alejandro. Experiences from the Participants of Mercado Verde Morelos, Mexico. Category: Local Produce from Morelos. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2023, vol.167, n.2 Epub 01-Jul-2023. ISSN 0252-8584.
Short commercial chains are an alternative for farm producers as they seek to reduce trade channels from the initial production to the direct consumer. The main objective of this study is to analyze the transcendence of Mercado Verde Morelos as a trading short chain as perceived by the participant families of this enterprise, particularly within the category of Local Produce from Morelos, for their socioeconomic welfare. The methodology employed corresponds to a case study with a non-probability type sampling. 35 in-depth interviews and field trips were conducted. It was observed that sales within Mercado Verde Morelos benefited these families economically. However, in most cases it was expressed that this profit isn’t their sole supply for basic living needs. They also expressed their concern about a sustainable production. It was concluded that these participant families achieve benefits both tangible and intangible through this kind of short trade chains, as they favor the overall welfare of their households.
