VALIENTE SANDO, Pedro; SALAZAR SALAZAR, Maritza y DOMINGUEZ RODRIGUEZ, Lilianne. Assessing the Quality of Dissertations on Education Sciences by Using a Sample of Opponents’ Reports. Rev. Cubana Edu. Superior [online]. 2018, vol.37, n.3 ISSN 0257-4314.
This paper presents the methodology used, and results obtained in a study aimed at gathering systematized information on the quality of dissertations examined by the National Education Sciences Examination Committee, located at the University of Holguin, in 2016. This information was useful to get a feedback on the training process in the institutions bound by the Committee´s decisions. Twenty opponents’ reports on dissertations written by twenty doctoral candidates trained at four universities in the eastern provinces of Cuba were selected. Eight dissertation quality indicators were used to measure scientific and methodological rigor in obtaining and presenting research results. Major problems found in the dissertations were poor wording of scientific texts; poorly corroborated research results; and limited scope of results and recommendations.
