Resumen

PUIG ESPINOSA, José Sergio  y  REYES FIGUEROA, María de los Angeles. Una experiencia pedagógica en la enseñanza del inglés con fines específicos en la Educación Médica Posgraduada. Educ Med Super [online]. 2001, vol.15, n.3, pp. 268-272. ISSN 0864-2141.

English teaching for specific purposes in medical graduate education should be aimed at developing the communicative habits and skills required for the formation of a health care provider to become a proficient communicator in a foreign language within his/her work and professional activities. This paper is part of a thesis approved to be submitted for obtaining the scientific degree of Doctor of Educational Sciences and rated as excellent in Didactics included in the second module of the Master´s course in Educational Sciences that the first author of this paper is taking in "Enrique José Varona" Higher Educational Institute in Havana. The paper summarizes the teaching experience in two graduate courses of English teaching for specific purposes in medical services, which take as a reference the L.S. Vigotsky´s historical-cultural approach that allows to understand learning as the result of the human social activity and particularly as a result of human interactions within certain sound, historical and institutional context. Such interactions set the values, objectives and methods of a professional work on an ethical basis in line with the most valuable social interests inherent to a humanistic conception, which direct the higher medical education work in our society. This teaching experience is presented from its implementation in a developing teaching-learning process model and a teaching work strategy (theoretically and methodologically substantiated) for English teaching for specific purposes in medical graduate education.
