Resumen
INFANTE VELAZQUEZ, Mirtha et al. Morbilidad por hepatitis viral aguda en unidades cerradas del Occidente de Cuba. Rev Cub Med Mil [online]. 2001, vol.30, n.3, pp. 151-155. ISSN 1561-3046.
Acute viral hepatitis is a common affection in closed collectives and military units. In a retrospective, descriptive and observational study, it was determined the behavior of morbidity from AVH in groupings from the western region of Cuba in a period of 8 years. The disease showed a trend towards the increase of cases by year, similar to what happens in the civilian population. More sick individuals were reported in the cuatriennium 1993-1996 compared with the previous one. It was demonstrated that the affection follows a seasonal pattern influenced by the moment of admission of new recruits in the troops. The highest number of cases was reported in November and May. Most of the affected individuals were adolescents and young men aged 15-21. It was concluded that the importance of AVH as a cause of morbidity among the troops increased during the last years, and that’s why it is necessary to adopt more efficient prevention strategies.
