Introduction: the process of formation and professional development in the field of health care -supported on the acquisition and reinforcement of competencies- also covers the continuing education and strengthens the necessary continuity between undergraduate and graduate studies, a fundamental concept for successful professional performance. Objective: to evaluate the impact of the implementation of an educational intervention strategy on the teaching work of professionals who have no educational specialist category. Methods: a design and intervention evaluation-type experimental research was conducted from October 1ro to May 15th 2010; the universe of study was 35 professionals who teach in the higher medical education in Nueva Paz municipality and who have no educational specialist category. A class observation guide was used and a basic course was given. At the end, an exploratory survey about the teaching dimension proficiency was administered. A set of indicators and standards were prepared for the evaluation of the strategy. Results: during the course, certain weaknesses related to the fulfilment of specific methodological directions in each topic were observed. Those contents identified as being not sufficiently mastered in the process of formation of educators. The survey showed the satisfaction of the participants in this course with the postgraduate activity. The results of the final marks of the evaluated processes endorsed the academic efficiency attained by over 50 % of these professionals Conclusions: Despite the weaknesses found, the impact of the applied educational intervention was positive.
