Resumen

MONTOYA, A; RODRIGUEZ, H; MIRANDA, Ileana  y  RAMOS, Mayra. EVALUATION OF Amblyseius largoensis (Muma) MASS REARING IN GREENHOUSES. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.3, pp. 168-175. ISSN 2224-4697.

Nowadays, no-chemical control strategies have been worked. Among them, one of the most pointed out is the use of predatory mites belonging to the family Phytoseiidae. Their use demands a stable production quantitatively and qualitatively. Considering these elements, the mass rearing of Amblyseius largoensis (Muma) was evaluated in a greenhouse using a tritrofic system. The susceptibility of two soybean and six bean varieties against Tetranychus tumidus was evaluated. The beans Fósforo 38 and 40 and the soybeans INCASOY-1 and INCASOY- 27 were selected as the most promising varieties for the production of the phytophagous mite. In a second test, the physiological indicators of these four varieties were evaluated and Fósforo 40 variety was selected to T. tumidus reproduction. A. largoensis mass rearing using Fósforo 40 variety and T. tumidus as prey was evaluated. Fourteen days after the predator release, there was an increasing in population of a 520,0%, with a multiplication rate of the initial population of 5,2. It was demonstrated that A. largoensis could be mass reared in greenhouses with a minimal manipulation. These results constitute an indispensable starting point for the design and implementation of a biological control program of broad mite in sheltered pepper production, what will lead to the reduction of the toxic levels applied in these systems, with the consequent benefit to the environment and the human health.

Palabras clave : Amblyseius largoensis; mass rearing; Tetranychus tumidus; Phaseolus vulgaris; Glycine max; greenhouse.
