Resumen

RODRIGUEZ ROCHE, Sulema. Trends in the Information Sciences employment sector and their influences on the social imaginary of the professional. ACIMED [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.5, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1024-9435.

The segmentation of the job market in the information sector; the incidence of the differences in the working insertion from one country to another; the development of knowledge society; the needs to create new forms of organization and management styles in institutions in pursuit of competitiveness, and to develop new productive information and communication processes; the necessity to assume the influence of market on information; the slow rhythm of employment in Information Sciences, which presents at present the lowest level in the service sector; the prevalence of women in the traditional sector and of men in the emergent; are among the main employment trends in Information Sciences. The category "social imaginary" allows to study the way society conceives and represents the existence of social phenomena in the different contexts. The legitimation of a professional figure implies the construction of an imaginary about it, and the course followed by this construction determines, in some extent, the profession development and, the other way around: the profession development influences on the course taken by the imaginary constructed about it. This is the case of Information Sciences professionals, for whom it is possible to identify at least 4 essential contexts of construction: theoretic, university, professional and social. The trends of employment in this area prove and justify the influence of the imaginary on the working insertion and performance of the professionals.

Palabras clave : Information Sciences; professionals; employment.
