Resumen

RODRIGUEZ SOTOMAYOR, Yamilé et al. WhatsApp as a tool for distance postgraduate education in times of COVID-19. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2022, vol.14  Epub 30-Dic-2022. ISSN 2077-2874.

Introduction:

the COVID-19 pandemic promoted distance-learning education and the WhatsApp application was one of its alternatives.

Objective:

to describe the results of the postgraduate course: "The gender perspective in Public Health" carried out with the use of WhatsApp at Guantánamo University of Medical Sciences.

Methods:

a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in March 2021. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive; and empirical ones: observation guide for data collection. The variables were defined: gender, profiles, participation in the pretest and posttest, number and form of intervention, types of messages and perception of the course received.

Results:

females and doctors in dentistry predominated among the students. There were 290 participations in the pretest and 398 in the posttest. Asynchronous interventions and written messages prevailed. 108 statements were made in the PNI, 63 % out of them were positive, 13.8 % negative and 23.2 % interesting.

Conclusions:

WhatsApp allowed the distance-learning course to be carried out with positive results, synchronous and asynchronous interventions through written and voice messages. The appreciation of the course by the participants was good.
