Resumen

VAZQUEZ MORENO, Almitra; LEDESMA AMAYA, Luis  y  GARCIA CRUZ, Rubén. Validation of the escq-20 questionnaire in Mexican adolescents. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.4, pp. 247-257.  Epub 30-Ago-2022. ISSN 2218-3620.

The study of emotional skills has gained strength in recent decades due to their influence on behavior and psychological well-being. Despite their relevance in daily life, there are no instruments for the assessment of emotional recognition, expression, and management skills in the Mexican population. The present study aimed to identify the psychometric properties of the ESCQ-21 questionnaire in Mexican adolescents. The instrument was applied to two samples (n1= 225 and n2=230) with a total of 455 male (n=147) and female (n= 308) adolescent participants. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses showed the mobility of some items with respect to their original structure, and one item was eliminated. The analyses evidenced that the instrument has good reliability indices when three factors are maintained (Perceive and understand, ω= .864, Manage and regulate, ω=.771, and Express and label, ω=.89). It is concluded that the instrument is appropriate for assessing social skills in Mexican adolescents.

Palabras clave : Adolescence; emotional skills; emotional intelligence; psychometry.
