Resumen

Objective:

To demonstrate how the motor capacity of the manufacturing industry can be measured in order to stimulate the territorial system.

Methods and techniques:

empirical, together with observation and statistical analysis. Its application in Majibacoa municipality, Las Tunas province, took the following organizations as case study: Industrias Locales (Local Industries), Central Azucarero (Sugar Factory), Forestal (Forestry) and Industria Alimenticia (Food Industry).

Main results:

It was possible to determine the driving capacity, on a territorial system perspective, based on the measurement of the economic, social and environmental dimensions and associated effectiveness, efficiency, relevance and sustainability indicators; which, in turn, were based on variables. Comparative advantages were also identified in each driving variable, which may be drawn on through the projects directed by the local Government, with the aim of benefit eventually the local economy. Conclusions: Amongst the analyzed variables, the effective index of innovation was recognized as the most decisive and necessary within the driving capacity to boost the local economy and contribute to the development of the studied municipality.
