GONZALEZ ROBAINA, Felicita; LOPEZ SEIJAS, Teresa  e  HERRERA PUEBLA, Julián. Water productivity estimates for agricultural crops and irrigation techniques in Cuba. Rev Cie Téc Agr [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.4, pp. 57-63. ISSN 2071-0054.

The term “water productivity” has been intensively used since the finals decades of the last century, and defined like quantity of production by quantity of water used, is a very useful concept once it is compared the water productivity in different parts of the same irrigation system or basin; and also when it is compares the water productivity in the agricultural production with others possible nonagricultural uses. The water productivity for a crop is very variable and it is a function of the factor that can limits this yield, water productivity can also varied as a function of crop adaptability to the environment, soil fertility, and fertilizers application between others. In Cuba, there has been calculated water productivity´s values taking from data obtained in experimental plots, but there is a very little information about its performance in irrigated agricultural crops in the field. During 2013-2014 years, the Research Institute on Agricultural Engineering, in order to respond the demand formulated by the Hydraulics Program in the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Water Policy; developed a field diagnostic along the country. Following a properly designed methodology and also using data available and expert criteria, it were obtained water productivity´s data from irrigated field. The results obtained from this diagnosis are exposed in this work and are discussing some factors that affect water productivity.

Palavras-chave : irrigated fields; water efficiencies.
