The continuity of studies of professionals in the Cuban medical sciences is carried out through postgraduate training. One of its modalities is specialization, which has the primary objective of achieving high professional competence with advanced capacities for research and innovation. The development of specialization is influenced by factors that determine the permanence, motivation and subsequent performance of the future specialist. The following article aims to promote reflections about the specialization processes in Villa Clara province. The available contemporary bibliography, the academic analyzes carried out on this subject, as well as the actions triggered in order to perfect scientific activity in the territory were taken as references.
