Conservation is concerned with preserving the material support of heritage assets to ensure transmission of cultural, historical or artistic values that objects possess. Their deterioration implies physical, chemical and biological changes that depend on the materials with what they were made and agents that provoke it. In Study Plan E of Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management career incorporates the subject Materials in cultural assets. The subject presents the most general characteristics and properties of the constituent materials of cultural assets; deterioration agents and the interactions with materials; the alterations they produce and the most common pathologies in which they evident. It is essential that students understand the role of experimental sciences, especially Chemistry, in the cultural assets conservation, an issue that is expressed in this article.
