The paper tackels the way in wich two contemporary novels, when it comes to deal with two of the most traumatic historical events of the 20th Century, adopt a series of patterns and motives from the classical tragedy. In doing so, it meditates on the issue of the representation of History within the novel, as well as on the relationship built up between two genres traditionally considered as opposite
