AMARO CANO, María del Carmen. Romay, Finlay y Guiteras, una triología de altos valores científicos y morales. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2001, vol.27, n.2, pp. 135-144. ISSN 1561-3127.
This paper of historical retrospective is aimed at addressing the development of the Cuban medical thinking from the 18th century to the first quarter of the 20th century through the analysis of the contributions made by three of the most outstanding Cuban physicians that is Tomás Romay y Chacón, Carlos Juan Finlay y Barrés, y Juan Guiteras Gener. Emphasis was made on the radical transformation of the phylosophy of their scientific thinking which made them to redefine their concept of medicine and to understand the importance of the social medicine, all this within the national and international social -cultural context. Well-worked secondary sources of information were seen. The recommendations explicitly made an invitation for the study of these Cuban medical personalities to both medical graduates particularly to specialists working in the Primary Health Care and the health workers and the medicine students so that they can evaluate with justice the development achieved by the present Cuban medicine, and above all, participate in the permanent improvement of the quality of medical care, inspired by those people who under much tougher conditions could develop science for the benefit of the Cuban society at that time and contributed to the development of the universal medicine
