This paper addresses the complex problems associated with the development of professional competencies in university students, based on the use of research projects as a formative scenario. The research problem is located in the inefficiency of research project management systems in relation to the research competencies to be developed by students at the university. The objective is focused on determining a strategy for the formative management of students based on research projects to enhance their professional performance. In the process, theoretical, empirical and mathematical statistical methods were used. The fundamental results are located in the elaborated Strategy and its partial application.
