It presents an assessment about the economic and social relationship from the public imaginary of the need for the concentration of traders in the city of Machala in shopping center. The reluctance to locate these spaces is because it is necessary to unite to the imaginary of the city the valuations of economy and scope that is imbriced with the urban problems and the necessity of the vision of the municipality of a more prosperous city. The revision of documents and the participant observation are used for the analysis of the current situation.
