Abstract

SARDINAS PONCE, Raysy  and  GUERRA LEAL, Obel Alcides. Amyand's Hernia and Garengeot's Hernia as Onset Manifestations of Cecal Appendix in the Inguinofemoral Region. Rev Cubana Cir [online]. 2019, vol.58, n.4  Epub May 25, 2020. ISSN 1561-2945.

Hernia repair in the inguinocrural region is one of the most frequent interventions in the surgical practice. Unusual findings can be found, such as the cecal appendix partially or completely contained within the hernial sac, called Amyand and Garengeot hernias. They occur in approximately 1% of patients with inguinocrural hernia, while they represent about 0.1% of the cases of appendicitis. Clinically, they present as an incarcerated inguinocrural hernia; ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) can assist in the preoperative diagnosis. The state of the cecal appendix determines surgical access and type of hernia repair. The objective of this article is to develop a support material for the professionals involved in the care of these rare surgical entities.

Keywords : Amyand's hernia; Garengeot's hernia; acute appendicitis.
