A review of updated international literature as well as some domestic experiences on the use of hydroxiapatite in different maxillofacial affections is presented. Very relevant results obtained from the use of this highly compatible implant material in the atropied alveolar ridge augmentations, the preservation of alveolar ridges, the orthognatic surgery, the traumatology, the camouflage surgery and the filling of osteolytic areas created by cysts and tumors are reflected. The advances made in the implanting technique upon the emergence of this material after the 70’s are detailed since hydroxiapatite provides differents from other used materials.
