As a result of the great development of the chemical industry during the last years, the possibilities for the occurence of a voluntary or accidental acute poisoning increase rapidly nowadays. This paper pretends to provide in a simple way aspects related to the treatment of acute poisonings, dealing even with pharmacological and basic aspects that have this type of toxic substances. The personnel working at the emergency and primary health care centers, the population in general and, specially, those places where there are children and chemical substances are used, should know about this kind of substances.
